Data Protection and Privacy

We provide specialist legal advice to local and international companies on issues relating to data protection and privacy laws, specifically in relation to compliance with local data protection and privacy standards and directives, as well as input on data processing agreements received from Europe.

We are currently advising local and international companies on the changing legislative landscape in South Africa with the introduction of, what will be, the Protection of Personal Information Act ("POPI").

POPI will have a substantial impact on:

• the transfer of personal information to third parties locally and outside of the borders of South Africa; and
• the measures that need to be implemented by companies in order to be compliant with strict the data protection and privacy standards that POPI prescribes.
• the way that companies may process the personal information of individuals;
